PROGRAM OVERVIEW
 
 
The program was created in a partnership with Tacoma Community College and The CDP Institute. As a participant in the Chemical Dependency Professional Institute, you will experience situations that will challenge your current thinking in the field of addiction counseling. We will explore contemporary research related to health, education, addiction and the human condition. The program will meet your professional certification needs whether you are a seasoned professional or a new and developing addiction counselor.

This program is tailored to the needs of any professional who currently hold an AA degree or it’s equivalent. This program is designed to satisfy the Department of Health’s educational requirements for becoming a chemical dependency professional. There are four consecutive courses offered this summer at the rate of one each week beginning
July 14, 2008.

The program is designed to be completed in one year or less and will be provided in both on-line and in-class venues. Each student will be assigned an advisor/mentor to assist with assignments and course work as needed to
insure successful completion
of the program.

The program is divided into four sessions.
This program is designed for beginning and experienced addiction counselor and both will receive excellent training opportunities.The summer session is the initial foundation educational component designed to meet trans-disciplinary foundations and establish a baseline for the professional practice
 
The courses will be offered with the following schedule:
Each course will have a two-hour introduction beginning the first Monday, July 14th. The class will meet in the afternoon and evening. The course work that follows will take place on-line. This will cover approximately 35 of the 45 hours of coursework. The remaining 8-10 hours of coursework will involve students meeting in the classroom with the instructor. This will allow the teacher to conduct the skill-building portion of the coursework and the students to complete the final examination of the course material.
Technical assistance will be provided to each student in order to assist them in complete the on-line portion of the course.
This program distinguishes itself from other programs. It combines direct classroom and skill-building activities with factual information and the student’s individual research. The research occurs in the on-line portion of the course. This hybrid coursework provides the student with the opportunity to exercise a self-paced learning style through the online portion of the course.
